It seems to me that the sun always shines on this place, at least every time I have visited it has been. Perhaps I've just been lucky... either way, the barn with it's cafe is a super place to visit.
To say this enormous barn is impressive is an understatement - especially if you take a little time to explore it and take advantage of the free audio guides available to visitors. Built in the 16th century, I believe it was built as a statement of wealth... you know, the 'My barn's bigger than your barn!' type of thing. Whatever the reason, it's just completely huge and you have to go inside it to really appreciate it.
There is no entry charge here either which surprises me a bit, but in a good way. :-)
You enter through the cafe which has a lovely feel about it, the staff are cheery, friendly and helpful and the cafe itself is spacious and welcoming. The internal exposed flint stone walls of the cafe remind us that it was once a cattle shed. Luckily, the cows are long gone meaning more luscious lemon drizzle cake for me then!
I have sampled a few sumptuous homemade cakes, cream teas and light lunches in here, all of which have been fantastic. The cafe offers a range of sandwiches, homemade soup of the day, salads etc but whatever you do when you're here, no matter how hungry you are or aren't feeling... you MUST EAT CAKE!
They also have a small selection of local crafts and gifts available to buy in the cafe such as bags and greetings cards.
All in all, this is a cracking place to visit. Whether you prefer barns or whether you prefer cakes, both will exceed your expectations here! Enjoy!
